IMTA 2024
(9 and over)

*** IF YOU'RE UNDER 9 YEARS OLD PLEASE CLICK HERE FOR YOUNGER KIDS MATERIAL ***

We'd like to review a self taped reading of the following three pieces of material (please click on the links below to get the material):

www.momentumtalent.com/drama.pdf

www.momentumtalent.com/bunnyscene.pdf

www.momentumtalent.com/commercial.pdf

1) DRAMA: (www.momentumtalent.com/drama.pdf) is your typical Soap material (you will play Derek - gender is not important to the scene), the challenge here is not to fall into the trap of poorly written dialog and cadence and to find several different levels in a very short piece. The back story is that your brother (Bill) has just lost the family restaurant to a devious woman the entire family has been warning him about for months (but he continued to become involved with her anyway, and she wound up taking away the family business).

We'd like to see the "close up" on this, very real/organic, don't push or sell it like typical soap material.  Ideally we'd like you to hit three beats: 1) Hurt: start from a place of hurt (not anger), take your time searching for the words because you're so devastated by the loss, plus in the beginning you truly expect Bill to make the situation better, 2) Anger: as Bill continues to NOT to take responsibility in the middle of the material this would make you angry, 3) "Sheer Determination" we'd like to see a transition right before the last paragraph, "You lose Dad's restaurant"... where we see you shift from anger to what we call "sheer determination", in other words people are usually their most frightening when they become deadly calm with a sheer determination in their voice with a subtext that says, I don't have to yell or raise my voice, but you WILL fix this, or I'll kill you in your sleep...

2) BUNNY SCENE / COMEDY: (www.momentumtalent.com/bunnyscene.pdf) A comedy scene because the son/daughter has figured out they're adopted and is making their Mom squirm during shopping at the super market... this should be played at your own age (in other words if you're in high school, you should play the scene as a high school student and you're using this dialog to tease your Mom ;)

3) COMMERCIAL: (www.momentumtalent.com/commercial.pdf) is a typical jargony piece of Jack in the Box commercial copy we use for commercial and 1/2 hour comedy "likability".  The challenge here is to forget about the words (vintage Meisner - float the impulse on top of whatever dialog you're given) and have an organic conversation with "a friend" about something you're reasonably excited about.

Again, we're looking for you NOT to sell the burger - we just want to see a natural, real conversation with a friend about something you're reasonably excited about (this is a challenge given the dialog - but the test is whether a real friend would believe the delivery or sense this was a commercial).

If you could please self tape these three pieces of material (iPhone, etc. is fine) and upload to www.momentumtalent.com/imtaupload that would be great (if you have other demo material, scenes or monologs available you can also return an on-line link to info@momentumtalent.com or upload to www.momentumtalent.com/imtaupload as well).

*** VIDEO TIPS ***

SLATE: Please start your video with Your Name, Your IMTA Number, Your Age, Where You're Located and Your Current School and/or Agency.

READER: You'll need a reader for the two person scenes (and your eye line should be to the reader just off camera, near but not directly into the lens).  For the commercial, reading directly into the lens is fine.

FILE SIZE:
You'll want to keep your video file sizes small for easy uploading -  ideally below 300MB.

OTHER LINKS/UPLOADS:
It's fine to return email (info@momentumtalent.com) a link to your self tape on youtube, vimeo, dropbox, wetransfer, etc. if that's easier.  You can also email as an attachment to info@momentumtalent.com (if the files are under 20MB total for each email)

We've also included some of our background information below.

Take Care... Mike, Garry and all of Team Momentum.
